$1 million in national support for fuel cell hybrid vehicles and hydrogen filling stations in Denmark at United Nations COP15 Climate Meeting in 2009
11.07.2008The Danish EUPD program has granted $1 million (€0.67 million) in support for the LINK2009 project, that is to secure development and demonstration of up to 50 fuel cell hybrid vehicles and establishment of hydrogen filling stations in five Danish cities onwards the United Nations COP15 Climate meeting in 2009. The total budget for LINK2009 is $15 million (€10 million) with $6.25 million (€4 million) in planned public support while remainder $8.75 million (6€ million) is to be provided by companies and end-users.
With the grant from the Danish EUDPprogram the LINK2009 development activities of the vehicles and stations will commence in August, while fundraising of remainder budget for the demonstration activities is expected to be finished by end of 2008.
The goal for LINK2009 is to put up to 50 fuel cell hybrid vehicles on the road before end of 2009, where the United Nations COP15 Climate Meeting will take place in Copenhagen. COP15 is to secure closing of an international climate agreement receiving global significance similar to the Kyoto Agreement. Showcasing fuel cell hybrid vehicles at this event can send a strong signal to global decision and policy makers that the technology can contribute to global solutions on the fossil fuel and climate challenges.
The LINK2009 vehicles are to be deployed in five Danish cities Copenhagen, Aarhus, Herning, Holstebro and Ringkoebing. A hydrogen refuelling station will open in Ringkoebing this fall as part of the West Denmark project (see: www.hydrogenlink.net/westdenmark). Stations in the remainder cities are planned to open during 2009 as part of the LINK2009 project. All stations will be 350 bars with onsite production through electrolysis. Future upgrade to 700 bars is planned after 2010.
LINK2009 is managed by the Hydrogen Link Denmark Association, handling the Danish hydrogen highway activities. LINK2009 will further contribute to realizing the ambition of the Scandinavian Hydrogen Highway Partnership of becoming one of the first regions in Europe where hydrogen is available and used in a network of refuelling stations.
